The new Small Pottery Wheel monthly update: April

Hey all!

At the start of this month, we returned from NCECA in the States and we’re excited to share where things stand with our business, our new pottery wheel, and more. Progress has been fast and encouraging—and we’re inching closer to a working, production-ready prototype.

🎉 NCECA

There aren’t enough words to describe how much we enjoyed being a part of NCECA 2025.

Every single person we met was so warm and kind—it felt like we were reconnecting with old friends. The event itself was beautifully organised, with amazing talks, workshops, and of course, the super exciting cup sale!

We sold out of everything we brought (including our demo wheel!) by Friday lunchtime, and had the smoothest, lightest pack-down ever 📦
We’re beyond excited to come back next year with our new and improved wheel models! 😻

🛠️ The New Model

We’ve hit some major milestones in developing the new model. Here’s a quick snapshot of the progress:

• Electronics are nearly complete, and we’ve identified both the motor and battery.
• Once our electronics board prototype is finished, our designer will integrate everything into the newly designed body—a big step towards finalising the product.
• Interest is growing fast—we’ve had a steady stream of inquiries from people wanting to buy the new wheel. That’s been hugely motivating!

What’s next?

• We’re waiting on a motor sample with the correct mounting.
• Once that arrives, our mechanical engineer will adapt the entire design for manufacturing using the final motor and battery specs.
• Each iteration takes several weeks to produce and ship, which naturally extends the development timeline.
• After that, we’ll produce a prototype for final testing and feedback. This will also be the stage where we can start revealing the final appearance and functionality.
• Once everything is approved, we’ll begin preparing for manufacturing, and the first units will start rolling out ahead of a full production run.

We hope this gives you a clearer idea of the road ahead. With so many moving parts in motion, we’re working flat out across every corner of the business to keep things progressing without letting anything slip through the cracks.

👤 Team Update

We’re currently recruiting a new helper at SC HQ to handle admin and customer service for Small Ceramics.

Once they’re in place, it will give Stefano more time to focus on what matters—building and testing the new model! We’re really looking forward to welcoming someone lovely to the team.

🚀 Looking Ahead

With electronics nearly wrapped, designs coming together, and our team expanding, we’re entering a very exciting phase.
