Hey everybody!
May and June have been a really fun few months for us at Small Ceramics, we’ve been doing a lot of new, different and exciting things!

Small Pottery Classes
In mid May was Mental Health Awareness Week, and we had the pleasure of hosting three classes for the employees at JCDecaux. It was a great way for them to relax and enjoy some quality time together, while also being able to take something home from the event. We used air dry clay and had two stations, one for throwing and then one for decorating.
Considering how successful the classes were, we are now looking into opening up an events side of our business to allow other corporates, charities, schools, art therapists and many more to offer this fun and therapeutic service!
If you’d be interested in booking any type of class, reach out to support @ smallceramics.com, and if you are a pottery teacher who might be willing to help us deliver the classes, then ping us an email!

New Campaing photo shoot 📸
Small ceramics did its first proper professional shoot at the very start of June in West London. It was a really nice day creating the assets for our next Hounslow borough billboard campaign. The whole team came along, pitched in and everyone was super happy with the results! We are very excited to see the response to the images once they go live.

Team Update 💪
Probably one of the most exciting things that has happened over the past two months are the new additions to the Small Ceramics team! After reviewing the needs of the business, we have added in a few new roles which will help us streamline every part of the business and free up Stefano so that he can concentrate on the new model and big picture thinking for our brand.
We welcomed the lovely Olivia, who will be taking over admin and customer service, the super talented Moiz who is assisting Patrick on all things manufacturing, and also joining us for a few months is Orla who comes over from America to do some marketing with us! It’s great to have our team growing with such passionate and talented people, and the office feels more alive and buzzing than ever before!

A great part of having new team members is that we have time to look at prototyping and designing new tools for our Wheel! One thing we pride ourselves on is the fact that the Small Pottery Wheel is accessible and allows people who may have disabilities or strength issues to be able to throw clay again. One piece of feedback we do get, however, is that some people find it difficult to centre the clay… Be that beginners, people with arthritis or with less dexterity in their fingers, and I have always thought about creating a centering tool that easy to use and functions properly. So the team have gone about designing a few different iterations that we have been testing, and we are all really happy with one of the latest iterations. It’s currently going out to a few potters for beta testing, and with some extra feedback under our belts we hope to finesse and release this tool very soon!

JCDecaux campaign
Now that we are into July, our second JCDecaux campaign is live on all digital roadside screens! I love seeing our ideas and concepts come to life and it’s great being able to travel around where we live and see our work out in the wild! If any of you managed to see it while out and about on your journeys, message me on Instagram and let me know what you think of it! I’m excited to see the response and the audience reach that this creative will achieve.
New Model
And finally last, but not least, the new model. The one thing that everyone wants to know about and rightly so!
As I said in the blog above, we’ve brought on a lot of new people to the business to try and alleviate some of the pressure on Stefano. In the end, he is the only person who can drive forward the development and creation of the new model as he is the one who has been working on everything since last year and since we got let down by our previous design company.
As you can imagine, the most important thing to us with this new model is the motor. It has to be the right size, have enough torque, and be quiet enough to pass our high standards for using it in the updated new pottery Wheel.

So this part of the process is taking the longest. Right now we are finalising the way that it will be mounted into the wheel to ensure that it doesn’t wobble and that the sound is kept to a minimum 🤫
As promised, I will keep you guys updated with any new exciting developments as they happen! Keep watching this space.
Thank you, everybody for keeping up with us on our journey and I look forward to coming back to you with news at the end of July!
