The new Small Pottery Wheel monthly update: September
Share
Hey everybody, welcome back to our September edition of the blog!
As always we are working on a-hundred-and-one things at once at Small Ceramics HQ, and preparing to move forward into our Autumn planning.
New accessories on the way
Whilst prepping for the new wheels and building more of the current model for selling, we have also been developing some new gadgets for our pottery wheels that have always been highly requested. The first of which is a trimming tool which will clip onto the current wheel’s head and will be able to hold a variety of pieces in place whilst turning and trimming. It’s almost ready for sale, we’ve been testing and refining to get it just right and I will put a message out on my Instagram and website once they are available to purchase!
The other is a tool designed to align a lump of clay right in the centre of the batt, to aid with throwing and more obviously, centering! This invention clips onto the edge of your batt with a guide to press the clay down, and once removed you will find a lovely cylinder of clay perfectly in the centre on your wheel ready to be thrown! This tool will be great for beginners who need a bit of help in the beginning before stepping up to centering freehand.
Classic Wheels
We are continuing to build our famous 3D printed wheels to keep our website nice and stocked! I understand a lot of you will be waiting for the new model, but for anyone who is happy to begin throwing now, our current wheels are just as good and enjoyed already by people all over the globe! We also added 3 new colours to our collection; Egyptian Blue 💙, Olive 🫒 and Forest Green🌲 (which is sparkly too!) These new colours can be seen on the cover image of this article.
If you have purchased one, you can use your pre-order deposit towards the purchase of one of these wheels. To do so, just take the 16-digit code from your deposit and paste it into the ‘Gift Card’ box at the checkout:
Manufacturing of the new wheel
After many interviews we have now appointed the new agency that we will work with to build and bring our new model to market. Due to the issues we have had previously, this took a long time as we wanted to be sure that we were hiring the right people.
Funnily enough, a simple pottery wheel running with a battery has always seemed to me like a straightforward product to design and make but it turns out that we are pushing a lot of new software and hardware boundaries with our unique set of requirements, and there aren’t many people out there who have done similar projects. However despite this we have a crack team on the case and it makes me feel even more excited that we are going to produce a lovely product!
Right now our timeline is looking like we won’t see anything concrete until the new year so please do bear this in mind when planning for Christmas!
Marketing
You all may have seen that my Instagram isn’t updated as regularly as it once was. This is because my job is actually as a Commercials Cinematographer, and thus tends to demand a lot of my time. Even more so in these months rolling up to Christmas, and I just don’t have the time to sit down and plan new ceramic ideas, film, edit, upload, and spend hours finessing my marketing content. Therefore we have begun a search for some help for a marketing assistant to take over some day-to-day running of my social pages. Please do get in touch if you or someone you know might be interested in helping us with marketing!
Thanks and as always, email me with any questions about anything pottery related…
Happy throwing, Daisy x
