The one and only Small Pottery Wheel! Probably the best miniature pottery wheel in the world...

This tiny but mighty wheel does it all - it has incredibly strong torque, even when throwing large amounts of clay, removable batts so that you can throw continuously without having to wait for your pot to dry or haphazardly remove it with wire, a removable collector tray for easy cleaning, variable speeds and can spin in both directions, and best of all it comes in different colours!

This wheel has been a labour of love from two very dedicated potters, in our pursuit to create the best mini wheel for all the pottery lovers out there! It is made by us in the UK, using 3D printing PETG plastic to create the body, batts and drip collector trays.

With this purchase you will receive:
- The Small Pottery Wheel with drip collector tray
- Four batts of the same colour
- A printed guide on how to use your wheel, tips & tricks and how to care for your wheel
- Power supply with corresponding adaptor to continent of purchase (US, UK, EU, AUS)

PLEASE NOTE: The Small Wheel does make some grinding noise when used, which is normal due to the geared motor needed to give enough torque.

Due to the nature of 3D printing, there will always be small surface textures and imperfections in the plastic, but these have no effect on the usability and function of the wheels.

This product is not a toy and is for use by people 12 years and older.

FAQ

You can throw from a pea-sized amount of clay all the way up to 350g of clay on our wheel. It is designed for throwing small shapes however, so any more than this might damage the motor!

Yes, we have adaptors for the UK, USA & Canada, Australia & New Zealand, and Europe. We will send out the correct power adaptor for your country with your order.

Each batt is 7.5cm wide (3 inches)

You will receive 4 batts with your wheel, and we will sell extra sets of 4 in all colours as an add-on or a stand-alone purchase.

Our wheel runs on 12V, 3amp and is 35W. We supply power packs with each wheel that has the correct plug for the country it is being shipped to.

You can use any type of clay! For beginners who don't have access to a kiln, try using air drying clay, and for those wanted to use regular clay I would reccommed porcelain for its softness and its final appearance!

We will potentially create the wheels in other colours, however it will depend on demand (we might do them as limited edition colours or requests) and they will take longer to create and ship out to you! But overall, yes we are open to and considering adding extra colours!

The wheel measures about 62 decibels at 10cm. The surface it’s placed on can affect this slightly, so results may vary a little.

We’ve experimented with adding acoustic lining inside the wheel, which gives a small reduction in noise. This isn’t something we’ve put into production, but it’s an option you could add to your own wheel if you’d like.

Some alternative cheaper wheels on the market use rubber around the motor to dampen sound. In our testing, though, this tends to create wobble in the head, which we've found makes the final piece a bit wobblier too. We’ve also found that with a wheel of this size, if the motor is any quieter, it compromises torque, so there’s always a bit of a trade-off between noise and performance.

Needs a little fine-tuning

There is a lot of potential and with a little more fine-tuning, I think this could be a perfect little wheel. In its current iteration, it's a little annoying to use.

The most difficult part of getting started is fitting the bat securely and having it be perfectly level. Unfortunately, some force is necessary to have it snap on all sides and because of that, I'm concerned it will affect the longevity of the wheel head and motor. It's hard to tell if the bat is level otherwise. I wish from a design standpoint that the wheel had been made with just a metal wheel head and not made bats a necessity at all. On top of that, the bats are 3D printed plastic and hard for the clay to adhere, making centering very difficult unless you use very soft clay. The 3D printing is also inconsistent so there was just one that worked for me right out of the box. The company suggests leaving it out in the sun to soften (in other words, go melt some plastic and be exposed to toxic fumes) so I'm not happy that the defect is not properly addressed by the company.

Apart from the above, the wheel works great. The motor is powerful enough so it doesn't slow down with added downward pressure (like other cheap Amazon wheels), and I really like the splash pan, which is made of two components that snap together with a magnet. The toggle switch lets you choose between left and right rotation, and the speed is controlled by a dial that also serves as the on/off switch. So far, I haven’t noticed any defects with these mechanisms.

I hope this review is helpful for potential buyers in making their decision, and also for the company in identifying areas for improvement. Overall, it’s a good wheel, though there’s still room for it to be even better.

Wonderful wheel, wonderful company

What a wonderful company. Recently, my much loved mini wheel started sounding its age, still working, but not right. 'Fair enough' I thought; it is old, thrown well, over a 1000 pots, done demos and classes, and been very well used. I contacted Small Ceramics on the off chance they would be willing have a look at it, but fully expecting to be told sorry, it is time for a replacement. Instead, not only were they able to offer a full service and repair of my wheel, but also upgraded the more worn parts. It's now ready for many more years of throwing! If only more companies had this attitude, and care for their products!
